Celebrating Liesbeek Park: A Collaboration Between Community and Seeff І The Uppers
Nestled along the banks of South Africa’s oldest urbanized river, Liesbeek Park is one of Cape Town’s hidden gems — a sanctuary of greenery, heritage, and community. As part of the Two Rivers Urban Park, this treasured space is not only a place for recreation but a living tribute to the rich ecological and cultural history of the Liesbeek River Valley.
At Seeff І The Uppers, we are passionate about preserving and uplifting the spaces that define our city. That’s why we’re excited to announce our collaboration with the Liesbeek Park community — an initiative that reflects our deep commitment to both nature and neighbourhood.
A Park Steeped in History and Purpose
The Liesbeek River stretches just under 9 kilometres, yet it carries centuries of history. As the first river to be urbanised in South Africa, it played a pivotal role during the Dutch settlement period. Today, Liesbeek Park forms a vital part of the Two Rivers Urban Park, which is home to heritage sites and a proposed First Nations Heritage Centre and Gathering Space — a place to honour and reflect on the area’s original stewards.
A Living, Breathing Community Effort
From the tranquil Upper Liesbeek River Garden, lovingly maintained by local volunteers, to the incredible biodiversity supported by the park’s eco-systems — including indigenous plants, frogs, Galaxia fish, tadpoles, crabs, and African black ducks — this space is a celebration of what community involvement can achieve.
Friends of the Liesbeek, a tireless organization of residents and conservationists, continues to lead the charge in protecting this river corridor. Their advocacy, education, and stewardship have turned the park into a living example of how urban spaces can be both green and deeply rooted in community spirit.
Seeff І The Uppers: Bringing Education to Your Walk
As part of our support for the area, Seeff І The Uppers will be installing beautiful, informative boards throughout Liesbeek Park, identifying the names of trees and native plants. These signposts will make your walks not just enjoyable but educational — helping both locals and visitors better connect with the natural world around them.
Whether you're strolling through with a cup of coffee, walking the dog, or teaching little ones about local flora, these markers are designed to enrich your experience and deepen your appreciation for the incredible biodiversity that thrives along the Liesbeek.
And if you haven't visited yet — or just want a preview — catch our walk-through video of the park now live on our social media pages.
Nature, Heritage, and Home
For us at Seeff І The Uppers, Liesbeek Park embodies everything we love about Cape Town: a blend of natural beauty, historical depth, and community-driven care. It’s why we do more than sell homes — we invest in the places that make life here so special.
We invite you to explore this extraordinary green space, support the initiatives that keep it thriving, and join us in celebrating a park that belongs to all of us.
Come for the walk. Stay for the story.
